EVAP system in 2005 Nissan xterra Sign In

I have a 2005 Nissan Exterra, the check engine light went on. I got a code for the emission control valve C short. What are the steps in solving this myself before bringing it in to the shop?

What is the trouble code number? Do you have a volt meter and understand the theory of electrical circuits (including computer circuits and bias voltage) and how to diagnose them?

Thanks for reply...sorry, was out of town for a while..the code showing on tester is PO455..I do know how to test for continuity and voltage..I am not afraid to tackle this, though I am not a mechanic..

P0455 doesn't have to do with any valve circuit being shorted.

P0455 is a large leak code. Means there is a big leak in the system between the fuel tank and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.

You need to find a shop that has an EVAP tester/smoke machine to find the leak.
