1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800 160,000 Started having some noise (knocking sound) during idle and acceleration. Wasnt real loud and seemed to quiet down after the car ran for awhile. Well on the way home from work today, something in the engine "let go" and now all I hear is what sounds like something broke and is now rattling around in my engine. Any ideas on what just happened? Oil level was good btw.

I'll state the obvious and that is you have internal engine damage. It will need to be torn down to find the problem. Hopefully just a rocker bolt pulled out of the head. That's about the best case scenario I can think of for something like this.... I imagine the SES light is on now with a P030X, that would at least tell you what cyl to look at.
