Explorer Head Gasket

Greetings all. I'm looking to purchase a 2002 explorer with a bad head-gasket. Just wondering how big of a job this is. I've previously changed a head-gasket on a 95 Volvo 850 which was a 15-20 hour job. Does anyone have experience with this particular motor (or has access to the "book" with the hour time estimates)? thanks

Unless everything else is in good shape and you can get it really really cheap. Factor in a reman engine and transmission in the buying price. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for all of the input. The car is a 2002 Eddie Bauer edition with a 4.0 V6. The car is being sold for approx a quarter of the book value. Transmission was just redone and tires are less than a year old. My expenses are only transport and the head-gasket giving me a lot of leeway to resell (or perhaps to keep, it's in really nice shape). All I need to know is approx how long it will take me to change 1 head-gasket (or both). I've bought and sold project cars in the past so I understand the risks and the expenses. All I'm looking for is specific information regarding this job on this motor. Thanks

Also realize that you don't know how long they drove it like that or how hot they got the thing. You could do the head gasket and have a bundle of cash into it to find out the bottom end is shot or the block is cracked from running so hot. With HT on the timing chain deal, and you would want to replace it and all the guides while you have it out. This job would be a big time and money investment. Napa ProLink is listing this at 23.8 hours

My 2 cents. Not a good risk for a vehicle to "flip" for a buck at any price more than its core scrap value I don't think you can know how bad the rest of the whole drivetrain is, T
