Foul running Mustang

The Vehicle is: Year of vehicle 1990 Make of vehicle Ford Model of vehicle Mustang Engine size 5.0 (fuel injected) This vehicle had a dirty fuel tank (had been sitting for a while and rust developed in the tank) Tanks was removed and cleaned, strainer and filter replaced. Ran good for a couple of days and began to run like it was cross-wired..(popping-spitting-backfiring) would hardly pull itself. Fuel filter removed (it was clean) and replaced again.....no help. Added "SEA_FOAM_ conditioner and it seemed to help. Drove the vehicle for a week or so...started same old symptoms. Did a complete tune up...Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, air filter, and another fuel filter. Now the car starts fine and idles (reasonbably OK) but when you hit the accelerator it stumbles (kind'a like a carb engine with bac accelerator pump) and then rev's fine. When you try to take off, especially up hill you have to hold the accelerator pedal nearly to the floor and ride the clutch to get it going. On the road (level throttle) it runs OK, but when you push the pedal it spits, sputers, and tries to quit. I havn't did a fuel pressure test because I can't find the valve to hook up the gauges. Any ideas? Thanks, BoJames

Test the fuel pressure. Sounds like your tank cleaning was insufficient. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Should be one on the fuel rail that looks like a bicycle stem.
