Hi, car people! I have a 1995 Saturn SC2, no idea how large the engine is, with 113,000 miles. It's been running great---until today. I drove a mile to the store (I know, I know...no time to hike it) and all was sweet until I came out of the store after 10 minutes. It turns over happily (battery 4 years old, but 75-6YR warranty) but wouldn't start. Not out of gas. Finally after pumping the pedal, it starts. Then RPMs go up and down and engine surges when my foot is off the gas. It's like a ghost is revving my engine. I pull into my garage and have to slam on the brake because the engine surges just at the wrong time. Then it dies. Started up fine twice later tonight while I'm trying to figure out whether I'll get to work tomorrow or not....any ideas? Thanks for whatever light you can shed!

Open book so far: Are you up-to-date with routine maintenance like tune-up, timing belt(s) etc? Could be a vacuum leak or something simple. Try getting a code reading and post results. AutoZone and others are doing this for free at least around here. Battery: Consider being early to replace it. 75 month is a pro-rated warranty and most don't go that long. IMO 4 years is enough but I don't think it's the up front issue, T

Thanks, Tom, Yes, tuned up July 2006, timing belt recently checked, serpentine belt replaced recently. What's a code reading? Since we don't have an AutoZone around here, would I go to my regular mechanic for it? Someone else suspects a choke issue, but he's definitely not an expert... Thanks again, Linda

No choke on this car! More and more parts stores are doing code readings - some without charge. Your own mechanic should have a code reader or access to one, T
