Head Gaskets...? Sign In

I have a 97 Chevy P30 Step Van with the 6.2L Diesel.
I have pressure in the cooling system and was loosing coolant for a while, then the radiator sprung a leak.
I don't have coolant in my oil or oil in my coolant and I'm not blowing white smoke.
The problem started after I changed out the water pump.

My mechanic says its the head gaskets, but I'm not getting definitive reasons, and $4,000 is a lot of money to throw at a hypothesis.

Could it simply be the thermostat, or something with the water pump switch out

What is the problem? Does it overheat? Is it losing coolant? How did the mechanic check the headgasket?

Yes, it is loosing coolant. At first it was loosing coolant, but not leaking. Then the radiator sprung a leak.

Has the coolant system been pressure tested?
