High oil pressure Sign In

Year of vehicle 1995
Make of vehicle Pontiac
Model of vehicle Grand Am
Engine size 3.1 L
Mileage/Kilometers 120k

I have the above mentioned vehicle.my problem is the oil pressure gauge reads in the normal range while idling ,40-50psi,but pegs out at 80 when i accelerate and the service engine soon light comes on.when i let off the gas,the gauge returns to normal and the light goes off.I had a used engine installed back in november, engine has 76k on it.the mechanic had to put in a new sensor at the time because the car it came out of had a light on the dash and mine has a gauge.it has been working fine until now.i dont want to blow another engine.thanks for any help

Re: High oil pressure Sign In

You can't really go by the gauge on the dash especially since the sender has been changed......

The 1st step woud be to verify the actual pressure with a mechancial gauge. This way you'll know if you have a mechanical problem or electrical problem.

Since you are having this problem and a SES light, you should definitely get it checked out............

If you have any questions about the light, get the coded pulled and post your findings............
