Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Ok, I'm a nurse, not a car person so forgive me in advance for my lack of knowledge and poor explanations ahead of time. I have a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with about 59,500 miles on it, I don't know off hand the engine size but if it's absolutely necessary I'm sure I can go look. I turn the car on and immediately noticed it was running differently. When it was sitting idle it kind of rumbled, it wasn't as smooth as it normally is. When I drove I could feel her kind of working, like the car just driving wasn't easy for it. Sure enough when I looked down the engine light was flashing. I know this has to be serious because usually when it goes on it's solid and it just means that who ever filled the gas tank didn't put the cap on right, easy fix. Also, rubbing the dashboard and telling her she would be alright didn't fix anything : / If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

The patient is really sick and needs to go to the hospital. Your loved one is suffering from a catalyst damaging misfire. The misfire may be in one or more cylinders. It will need an EKG and Xray to figure out what is going on to see what is causing the misfire. Hopefully they can resolve the problem soon before you have atherosclerosis of the exhaust. We'll be sure to send some flowers and a get well card. Hopefully the bill isn't too bad.......Crazy

Now I just need to find a reliable Doc. I must say, that sounds just terrible but you had me laughing through the entire thing. Well, laughing and a little crying. Any chance things like that are covered?

That is only one of hundreds of reasons for that light to come on.

By covered I assume you mean by the warranty. This is a powertrain issue, so your 10/100,000 warranty should cover it. When the light is flashing it shows you have an active misfire, and just like a bad heartbeat the patient runs like crap. A misfire let go too long can and will wreck a very expensive catalytic convertor so I would take it to the dealer and get your warranty's worth on this.

Re: Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Alright guys, brought the car in to the service station and they told me it was an Oxygen sensor that needed to be replaced and that it is indeed covered under warranty. I asked if the would explain the rumbling i felt in the car when sitting idle and he said yes, that the computer wasn't registering all the commands the car was getting and it was causing a miss-communication in the computer. This is all paraphrasing btw. Does this sound right? Because I don't trust the dealer service station at all, the only reason i'm there is because i really can't afford to get something that's covered done elsewhere.

It's possible and now light should be out and it should run as you expect it to. If that wasn't the whole problem the light will come back on sooner or later. They can shut it off but only for a while with an ongoing problem. You have the warranty so use it IMO,

I don't know if I'm swallowing all that from an 0/2 sensor.

Re: Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Well, it's getting replaced and I'm getting the car back tomorrow. Would it make sense to bring it to Aamco to have the computer read or something. Not really sure what to do but want a safe car that runs right. Any suggestions once I get the car back?

Re: Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Let them put the sensor in and clear the codes and then drive it to see what you have. I just don't have high hopes that will resolve everything.

Re: Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Repairs under warrenty must be done by dealer . So you have no option on that. However , Non warrenty items and routine maintenance , oil changes ,brake work, tune ups etc can be done by an independant shop that is a member of BBB has certified techs and can give references . Hammer Time and the others are such a indep type's or retired from the trade to give you an example of the knowledge background. IMO I would not use a big box ,chain type store . Altho there are a few good mechanics at all types of shops. Their mechanics are generally not as trained and tend to over sell .To be fair its not just the mechanics ,they get paid only by what they sell ,often in packages. No sales no pay.Once you find a shop you can trust , stick with them . They will not always be the cheapest , but you cant buy trust.

Re: Hyundai Sante Fe 2007 flashing engine light Sign In

Warranty issues as RT said: If to be covered the dealer would almost certainly be required. That is for failed items.

Those extensive periodic maintenance looong list of things to do that will void the 10/100,000 items here (MA) must use Hyundai parts w proof of purchase and can be done by qualified independents but not in a nearby state where the entire service list must be by the dealer. That's a pretty bold warranty so not a surprise they want to get the full service work at full prices. Just be careful to follow the details if you want to keep the full 10/100K deal,

T
