Engine Mechanical problem 2001 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 132000 miles When the car is in park it idles at around 300 to 400 rpm, spits and sputters, and tries to go dead. While driving it still sputters when you give it gas.The catyletic converter and oxygen sensors were replaced about a year ago. Could this problem be the fuel pump or filter? Its so bad now that we dont attempt to drive it.

Was everything fine when the coverters and O2 sensors were replaced? How long has it been running lousy like this? You can kill new stuff too driving it too long when not running well. This needs some diagnosis for why it doesn't run well now, code reading and inspection for vacuum leaks, plugs and wires, tune-up items thru out including a new fuel filter, T
