Well, never had an issue with this before. I drove it most of the day today until this;

I turned the key, engine started but made metal sounding banging under the hood. It was loud. I turned the car off. I then waited a minute and then turned the key, engine started, and everything sounded perfect.

Any ideas at this point? I drove it home and it had a mildish-heavy smell under the hood, like burning oil.

My oil is was recently changed and car maintained. I am afraid to drive it further. Anything I should look for? I have 68,000miles on it.

I have all new ac cooler and condensor, and new radiator fan installed in the past 6 months.

How is the engine oil level? Any leaks underneath?

I will check in the morning. My dad thinks I should check it warmed-up while running. Is that so? Or should I check it cold and off?

My oil was changed last month so I overlooked even checking my oil level.

The oil level needs to be checked with the engine turned off and the vehicle on a level surface. You can check it with the engine cold and turned off or you can check it with the engine warm and turned off. If you just turned the engine off, wait 15 minutes before checking the oil.

If you check it with the engine running, you'll have an inaccurate reading.
