Ok, I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Orvis Edition (Doubt that makes a difference....) s6 cyl 4.0, about 168,xxx miles..... The problem with it is that after I start it up and it gets to normal running temp, when I stop at a stop sign (or light of course) it spits and sputters and acts like it is starved for fuel and tries to die.... I let off the gas and it smoothes out. Until I have to stop again..... It will idle just fine, it drives just fine for about 5-10 minutes, but then starts the sputtering after a stop. Fuel pump kicks on when the key is turned, fuel filter was changed yesterday, Fuel pressure tested at fuel rail was in normal range..... eventually after sputtering for a few minutes, it will die... typically leaving me in the middle of some super busy intersection..... Strange thing is that the tach needle jumps from about 3000 rpm to 0 and back while it is sputtering and trying to die.... Tells me its probably electrical... but then again it acts like fuel problem..... The jeep does not have the OBD-II test port, so I cycled the key 3 times (Off to ON 3 times) to check the fault codes (as flashed by the check engine light)..... Codes 11, 12, and 55 were flashed. 11 is "No signal from distributor during cranking" 12 is "Battery cable removed within last 50 key cycles" and 55 of course is "Code reading process complete" Now, I don't know if #11 is just reading because the engine wasn't being cranked at the time, or if it means something else... Anyone got any ideas? I just bought this Jeep about a month ago... I REALLY need help!!!

Sounds like classic crank sensor issue.

Could very well be..... Just today I replaced the TPS and the pick up coil in the distributor.... Still no luck, any other ideas? I hear that the crank sensor is EXPENSIVE!!!! I'm still trying to figure it out but don't know where to go next.... Half tempted to get a quick easy fix......DYNAMITE!! But then I would still be out the 6 grand I have left to pay for it!! HELP!!!!!

Dynamite works very well! Been tempted MANY times. C4 is much safer, though. Wink Actually, the crank sensors really aren't very expensive. We've had terrible luck with aftermarket CKP sensors on Chrys. products, so now we buy only OE.
