Knocking coming from in valve cover Sign In

I have a '92 Nissan Stanza with 200,000 mile. Recently I have been hearing a knocking sound coming from inside the valve cover. It makes the car sound like a diesel! The plugs and wires were recently changed along with the cap and rotor. The oil was changed on schedule as well back in July. I'm kinda stumped on this one. What should be the first thing I check, and what are some probable causes? Thanks

Can you video/record the sound and put it up on a video hosting site and then send us the link? You might get better advice if we are able to hear what your hearing.

The video/audio uploaded good. The quality isn't that great. The clacking sounds like hydraulic lash noise in the valve train or the timing chain is slapping around from worn out guides. How is the oil pressure. Spec is more than 11 psi at idle. Does the clacking get worse or better as it warms up? Does it go away or get worse with the engine at higher rpms?

You might need to pull the valve cover and do some inspecting under there. Check for worn out cam lobes/followers and sloppy chain.
