My Engine has a high idle. Sign In

Alright I have a 4.0L V6 OHV in my 98 Ranger, and it has a high idle of about 1000 RPM's to around 1300 RPM's, the check engine light is on but the codes that are stored in the computer are an O2 sensor (slow response) code, and 2 engine running lean codes. Any idea what might cause that?

Cure the lean running code and you will cure the high idle. The idle is high due to a vacuum leak or ait entering the system thet the computer does not know about. Such as loose connections between the MAF and the throttle body, broken vacuum hoses, PCV valve bad, grommet around PCV. With the extra air coming in, the computer is trying to compensate by adding more fuel, this in turn raises the engine speed. Look closely for anything that may cause an air or vacuum leak in the engine. Then clear the codes and drive the truck.
