Need Help :( Ford Focus Sign In

I have a problem with my ford focus 3 years old, 148 000 km. A mouse chewed through spark plug wire, then problems started, we had the wire replaced thinking that would fix the problem but other problems started. If i go to start the car it takes a few seconds to start up, then when I drive it it takes awhile to switch gears, and almost like I am driving in low gear, if i leave it running it shut down, it is not the battery it is new, i had all the spark plugs replaced (hoping that was the problem), the engine light is now on and the wrench light, wondering what may be the problem before i bring it in to get fixed to estimate what the cost may be. Does anyone know what may be wrong, thank you :)

The "check engine" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.

The wrench light is for the Body Control Module and you may need a better scan tool for that.

Re: Need Help :( Ford Focus Sign In

thank you I actually did get my car scanned by a friend who has one of those car scanners and had 6 codes pop up (the first time i got it scanned) PO 141, 02 sensor heater circut malfunction, po 135, 02 sensor heater circut malfunction, PO 102 Mass or volume circut low input, PO 403 exhaust gas recirculation circuit malfunction, PO 443, evaporative emission control system purge control valve circut malfunction, PO 707, transmission range sensor circuit low input, after I had these codes read I had the spark plugs changed by a mechanic who did another scan of the car and he said more codes came up, i know one of the sensors thatt are broken are the sensors that read low air in the tire (which was broken by walmart when changing the tire). thanks so frustrating without the car running uggg

I guess you didn't think it was important to post that info with your question.

Re: Need Help :( Ford Focus Sign In

You should inspect all the wiring harness in the engine compartment. Make sure your little furry friend wasn't snacking on something else than plug wires.

If you can get a code scanner, clear those codes out and then see which ones come back. Make a list of the ones that come back and post the numbers, so we can tell you which way you need to go.
