My 2005 Chrysler Pacifica 3.5 L has never run all that smoothly or had great pickup, but a few months ago the heater stopped putting out hot air. This week my temperature gauge went all the way up to the line that starts the 'red zone', then dropped back down and kept repeating this, up and down. After the car cooled, I checked and my coolant was almost completely gone in the reservoir. I filled it back to 'cold fill range' (took almost the whole bottle) and turned the car on. Once the engine warmed up, the heat worked again. I went to drive the car down the road and the coolant began coming out in a stream and in some places a puddle on the road. I let the car cool completely and checked the coolant. It was significantly below normal range, but not as low as initially. I haven't noticed any smoke and the oil on the dipstick looks totally normal. Any suggestions on what to do next or thoughts on what the problem may be? Thanks so much!

For any reason overheating is a killer so get to this. With a visual of coolant showing right after filling reservoir I'd pressure check system and plain look for where it's coming out.

Many/most reservoirs are not going to put much or any coolant into the engine/radiator by just filling those FYI. Since it quickly took it in or leaked that tank or tube to radiator may be the first issue. What overheating might have already done is next when you find what should be an obvious leak,
