My 94 saturn sc2 would not start the other day. When I turned it over i got a loud click and that was it. I took it to a shop and they said it was a bad solenoid on the starter. So i replace it. A few days later I am driving down the road and my air bag dash lights starts flashing then the engine starts to die and the light dim but everything goes back to normal. I thought. I pull into the nearest parking lot and look under the hood. Their is a heavy burning smell and now my car wont start again. I don't even get a click when i try to turn it over. I can push start it though. Any ideas what is wrong?

Just some ramblings and maybe reasons: Starter is biggest draw on the battery by far and requires good cables, battery and all connections. IMO the single click is either a connection, battery itself, starter and solenoid on top should probably have been replaced as an assembly but solenoid is available separately. You smelled a burning odor so I'd begin looking for wires that look burned and make sure battery itself is OK. If over 4 years old IMO they can be the failure without provocation and short inside - if so the odor is likely odd like burning egg/sulfur like unique to those who have witnessed it. That's hydrogen and dangerous if so - USE ALL CAUTION! Guessing that no matter what or why that alternator may also have tried real hard and burned. Check wiring to and at it too. Air bag light? Dunno but may just be noticing lack of proper current. Are you apt to take this on or send it out? T
