What did you need to touch the timing at all? Gotta go in a second and can't look it up but especially if this uses a vacuum advance to distributor it was/is common for wires that move inside distributor to rub and short out. Sometimes could just move them and either way they must plug in nicely so would look there since you were just messing with that it's on the list,

Does it restart right after it dies?

ok Pontiac Fiero house are not vacuum advance they are electronic.distributor was removed to access vacuum hoses behind it. the distributorwas reinstalled the car restarted the timing was reset and the car was running great 4 about 1 minute. At which time the idle speed sounded as if it was rising and the car died.I ad the pickup coil check and the ignition timing module checked both components checked out fine checked all wire connections still no power at positive side of coil with ignition on. the post you sent me refer tocontained no ignition or timing troubleshooting information I'm not changing the clutch in my Montero.the charging light in my Dodge or suspension and my Ford.[:/

Tired - sorry - Basics still as this just happened from removing distributor. Does the rotor* turn when cranking engine at all now and or did it drop down fully into place when putting it back? I forget as all were the 4cyl that I knew of and were a pest enough in the tight spot.

* Distributor Rotor: May have sheared off a roll pin at the lower gear if not turning or not all the way down and not really grounded either - wild arse guess but it's old and hard to see and get at that car like anything on those,

I'm having a hard time understanding what the OP is typing.

No power at the coil? Does that mean you don't have 12 volts at the pink wire at the coil connector with the ignition on or you don't have spark from the coil while cranking the engine?

That's alright . I have a hard time communication .I will try to clarify it better the distributor has been removed, disassembled, ( removed ®drift pin cam gear and shaft .removed ignition module fromj pickup
At the respected connector .I then reached for my trusty multimeter with it and the help from our local O'Reilly store who tested the mod and responded wi
The ignition module passes. I with my trusty multimeter. Ck the following test per Haynes Pontiac repair manual all models 1984 to 1988 pickup coil connection pen to the distributor housing (000) ohms (pass) pickup coil connection pin to opposite pickup coil connection pin (001) (fail) but the two new ones at our local sponsor O'Reilly Auto Parts produced the same on reading so I pass it. Distributor reassemble with new lower cam gear and ®drift pin. distributor remounted in engine cking for being property seated. connections was secured. number 1 piston at top dead center compression stroke .rotor electrode faceing the #1 piston spark plug location on distributor cap.which catched spark plug wires in respective locations recheck all wire connections.cked battery voltage at vehicle battery 13 volts .I then plasted the ignition key in the on position observing the check engine light which illuminated indicating there is not a close in the circuit.(fuse not blown) the fuel pump came on for 3 sec (passes voltage at fuel pump) I then with a assistant observing for valve spring movement thru the oil filler hole. then attempted starting the engine the assistant inform me that we have movement in the valve springs indicating timing chain intact.stater ingaged and tuned over properly.engine failed to give any sign of fuel ignitiongn or indication either in intake manifold indicating pre-ignition or through the exhaust indicating retarded.ck spark.sparklez again checked at the number one spark plugs no spark was observed voltage was then checked at the distributor no voyage was observed voltage checked at the ignition module with the key in the on position 12.2 volts present both in and out.voltage was then cked at coil positive connection with ignition key in the on position no voltage was observed. Leaving only one thing left to say WHAT THE F#@&

I'm having a hard time following what you are trying to say and why all this over gaining access to some vacuum hoses!

For vacuum hose(s) this is now all about a distributor? Was it fine before all this messing with it?

I'm lost with this thread,

Try to follow this .I'll try to stick with the obvious. you have never worked on a Pontiac Fiero chances are never seen one.spent more time and effort on your response than you did reading the original posting. The car won't start no spark at the spark plugs.it's also quite obvious that I had picked the wrong forum!!! I'm sorry for any inconvenience I have caused.
You wouldn't know a good car mechanic by chance. My car won't start and I found there's no spark at the spark plugs.

I have worked on several of those in the past and most of us in here have worked on stuff you probably couldn't dream of fixing. You didn't pick the wrong forum, you just have a problem with grammar and sentence structure. Good luck with your problem.

Closed as OP seems this forum doesn't meet his/her satisfaction.
