camshaft position sensor Sign In

I have a 1997 saturn sl2 dual overhead cam. The read out is telling me I have a problem with the camshaft position sensor.I have not been able to locate one and is it located under the valve cover or outside on to block.

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

Please post the #s of your code reading. Just looked for "cam" sensor and didn't find location or if it had one but did show for crank sensor........

"Crankshaft Position Sensor1997 Saturn SL2 1.9L MFI DOHC 4cylThe Crankshaft Position Sensor is located:
Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, mounted on end of engine block
"

That's all I could find but that source is iffy too,

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

I didn't get #s on this one. What I got was.....camshaft position sensor A circuit bank 1 or single sensor....... I've looked at parts places and some say there is such a thing but even they don't have it when you click on that part? This is really screwwy.

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

This is what another parts site says for the look up..............
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Sorry! No results were found for "Camshaft position sensor"
Is this item exclusive to your 1997 Saturn SL2? If it is a general part or accessory, clear your vehicle to broaden your search. Your vehicle will be saved in the search box drop-down for future searches.
Clear your "1997 Saturn SL2" from your search
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
IDK - See if you can recover or get a real code #. Remember that even when it says a code for a sensor circuit means the circuit not that it needs a sensor so fast just sees a problem there.
? See if you see anything unplugged near where cam gears would be I guess otherwise I'm lost with info I'm searching for too,

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

Sorry I couldn't find anything but know that I don't pay for pro software either. Just maybe it has a different name for a similar thing?

Don't quit yet if you have a warning for it or something you should pursue it. If this site doesn't have the answer or other ideas try a Saturn specific site maybe before you go hunting for something that doesn't exist.

Another here may come by and know so keep your settings to get a notice but I'm just coming up with it doesn't have such a thing,

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

does not use a CMP sensor....
the PCM decerns the #1 TDC compression (cylinder firing) by comparing ign coil resistance when #1 fires into compression compared to firing into exhaust-

... check secondary ignition, be sure to use OEM - if all is good replace coil...

With excellence Kev2 no surprise. I was beginning to think this was the planet Saturn with how little I found!

Re: camshaft position sensor Sign In

Kevin has it right. Wink

Is this thing misfiring or running bad?

Would be nice to know which of the three CMP codes it is flagging.
