i have a 1993 chevrolet blazer and when i accelerate i hear a very loud clanging noise in the rear of the motor(sounds like ball bearings rolling around in a tin can)it caused a severe leak in the rear main oil seal. what could have caused this??

noises travel and don't sound right when you sit in the drivers seat. A loud clanging noise when you accelerate sounds to me like a bad motor mount. when you put your engine under load - as when accelerating - and you have a bad motor mount (usually on the drivers side) the motor will actually lift up and the fan blades will hit the fan "guard" on the front of the engine. this causes a loud clanging noise. It can also cause rear main leaks simply due to the stress put on the rear main seal when the engine "torques".
