cold engine rough idle Sign In

Ford Escape, 2001, v6, 135000 mi. When crank engine in morning it idles rough like it is starving for fuel. Have to work throttle to keep runing. When engine warms up it is alright. I can drive it just as always. It is fuel injected. If in the old carb I would know that the choke needed fixing. But now? Any Ideas for a quick fix? I can not drive the SUV until the engine warms up.

Start by checking the antifreeze level in the radiator. If the level is too low, the coolant temp. sensor will give a false reading to the PCM causing cold start fuel delivery problems. Also, you may want to be advised that these vehicles have problems with the coils. You may want to check spark on all cylinders while this problem is happening. Please let us know how you make out with this.

thank you for the reply. Have checked water level and its alright. Will check coil this weekend. Its puzzles me that their are no codes in computer. Its my daughters vehicle so I don't drive it. She has to crank vehicle and sit their using the throttle to keep the engine going until it warms up. Again, thank you for the reply.
