Did they replace the radiator with a new one? Repairing one of those plastic/aluminum radiators isn't cost effective. WV uses a lot of plastics in their coolant system, so over time with the expansion and contraction along with the plastic aging and becoming brittle its not going to last as long as something that uses metal parts. If the thermostat housing is leaking and you want to keep the car, it has to be fixed if you want to keep driving it, right? What is your mechanic's labor rate? Have you got some other quotes in your area from some other licensed and insured shops? Labor for thermostat housing is around 2.5 hours Thermostat housing assembly aftermarket around $140 (dealer part is higher if you go that route) There is going to misc part prices in there. Probably $340-$450? What did they quote you? If you get your own parts, it will be cheaper. Some shops won't even install customer parts and most won't warranty the work. Just FYI. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

thanks for the reply... i had a shop quote me at $50 an hour labor to put the part in if i buy it - guess that would be roughly $150 plus the part which would run me around $100 on the cheap... i can call around . my mechanic wont put the part in if i buy it. so i am going to the guy that put the radiator in.
