i have a 2002 dodge intrepid with a 2.7 engine...when i bought the car the engine had blown head gaskets and a bad water pump....it seemed to run fine other than that....we pulled the engine for a rebuild...new chain rods mains valve job water pump guides ......we put the engine back in ....it began to start hard...found bad ground....still starts hard....but the main problem we are having is that when you do get it started and start to drive it runs fine but will not accelerate past 2400 rpm....it acts like it kills the fuel....you let off the gas and go below 2400 all is fine ,,,,runs good...does this all the time....we have replaced the computer....crank sensor .....cam sensor....nuetral safety swith...still nothing seems to help.... please scratch ur heads along with me and collectively maybe we can fix my problem

I would use a scan tool to see what gear the computer is seeing. If there is a problem with the transmission range sensor and the PCM thinks it is in Park/Neutral, it will engage the rev limiter. You also want to verify proper fuel pressure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You might be out of time....I've seen that P0016 when they have jumped time.... Take a vacuum reading, if it's low & shaky, that not good.......Take a look at the fuel trims and post the data if you can... Try disconnecting the cmp and see if it will start & run and if that makes a difference.....

Try disconnecting the cmp and see if that makes a difference, it may or may not start, some need the cmp others don't.. If you have access to a scope, use 2 channels & scope both the ckp & cmp to see if there are in sync...Also look at the other data I mentioned and post it if you can... Is there any knocking noise from the timing cover.....The tensioners on those 2.7 can be a little tricky to set if you aren't familiar with them.....

like i said...this car runs like a top...no sputtering misfires or anythinh g...sometimesa hard to start..sometimes not...just will not accelerate past 2400rpm....could a bad battery cause this issue?

I've suggested, a few times now, to disconnect the cmp and see if that makes a difference.....I was waiting on a reply to what happened when you did this.....I also wanted to know if you had/have access to a scope.... One thing I will mention you can also do (and post back & let us know what you found) since you were having the rev lights coming on at the wrong time, double check all the wiring harnesses to make sure none of them got pinched or damaged when the engine was reinstalled....
