engine cutting out

i have a w reg ford escort 1.6 litre ,year 2000,about 90,000 miles on the clock.i have had this car for about a year and had no problems at all,until the last 2 weeks.it has cut out 3 times when i have approached junctions,changing gear.the battery light obviously flashes.it strarts up again straight away but it is worrying that this has started happening.could anyone give me any explanations as to what it could be?

This may or may not be the problem, but is very common with Fords. The idle air control motor is an electric solenoid that opens to allow air into the engine to control idle speed. They get dirty and sticky. Sometimes, just don't react quickly enough because of this. There may be other issues going on, but that would be the first place I'd look. The fuel injection (including throttle body and IAC) should be cleaned at about 40,000 mile intervals. Loren SW Washington
