Was it fine before this? A maybe is you are hearing noise from carb or vapor flow thru headers?

Re: engine noise Sign In

It's not so much how many barrels a carb has it has to match the intake and what the engine can take in. You could put a 4V on it and it would do any more than what it came with. I pick a strange analogy. Put two faucets on a sink and if the drain can't handle more water you haven accomplished anything. It all has to line up and match. I think now you are hearing noise from it or perhaps the headers just don't have a good flow thru them? Hard to say but perhaps you can pin point the noise with a listening rod or automotive stethoscope.

The chief reason that I know of for multiple venturi carbs is to smooth them out under various loads and demands. You get nothing unless the rest can accommodate by adding more CFM to an intake or intake valves not designed to take more. More power takes more than just a fancy named carb. Correcting a problem that a vehicle had new by design is another thing and the late 70s to early 80s were stuck with EPA regs plus CAFE regs had started to kick in and there were some real rats as engineering hadn't caught up to the new regulations - that's different. VV the variable venturi carb was a nightmare around then - funky looking things and you'll never see one because they ran so poorly they were redesigned with a more traditional type available aftermarket or perhaps Ford recalled them - can't remember now. Didn't use them on the sixes,
