engine wont crank by hand

2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L 142000 miles 4x4 pulled motor to replace oil pump.. engine was turning by hand then reconnected block to transmission now the engine wont budge....truck is in neutral....any ideas?

Auto or manual tranny? If it's manual does pushing the clutch pedal make any difference? Also when was the last time it would turn over by hand? After the pan was put back on? Does pulling the starter make any difference? Does removing the serp belt make a difference?

Automatic tranny turning over after the pan was put back on starter and the serp belt are removed

How were you able to rotate the erngine to bolt up the torque coinverter? LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

check to see if torque converter is fully seated in trans . back off bell housing bolts ,if eng now tiurns you need to drop tranny and rotate and push in converter till seated in pump. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

Hey RT, do they still do these like te old 289's, meaning you have to line up the torque convertor drain plug with the hole in the flex plate? Otherwise you have this prob?

to the best of my knowledge not on this model . however it is easy for a converter to slip out a bit. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
