fuel injection cleaner right in fuel rail?

crazy russian mechanic video on youtube shows him just disconnecting the fuel hose and swapping in a can of fuel injector cleaner and starting the engine to clean the fuel injectors. seems to work, but is it safe? does running the engine on carb/injector cleaner for a few minutes hurt the engine?

The whole idea is ridiculous. Most fuel injection systems require a minimum of 30-40PSI to spray through an injector and the idea that could be done with a spray can and a straw is just nuts. It's also very dangerous with the ignition system active.

There is or was a machine by Snap-On no less to do just that. "Motor VAC or said like that? IDK so AYOR but think it's the right idea if you are convinced the problem is a fuel issue. Hard to know for sure - wish you luck,

i think i found what you are talking about. item # EEFI5CLEANER. pricey. looks kinda similar to a product another youtuber recommended. OTC Tools (7448A) Fuel Injection Cleaner Canister. but this one only has one gauge, tho. i wonder how much that matters. still pricey, but avoids the low PSI that Hammer Time is talking about, that could probably cause some knock just spraying a can in there.
there is yet another one on Amazon for $65 called the C80 Non-Dismantle Gasoline Auto Fuel Injector Cleaner Kit. looks pretty janky. and I hate buying stuff on amazon because of all the counterfeiting. and it looks like this one usually comes with some foreign air fitting.

Chances are you don't need these things? Why do you think you do?
Ancient fuel (2-3 years enough) would be a reason, otherwise I'm lost with this? From MA there are strict rules on fuel sold here from azzhole to apatite if you have a sense of humor about it?
If you really think BAD fuel in this get it out for new, up to including flushing out fuel tank.
Hey sport, You aren't new here nor am I (2002) or so. Time flies my default is "Been there, done that" owned more problem cars and things than any reality could comprehend.
In short - refresh, why you want to do such a thing?

That OTC unit is the correct tool. I have that one myself.
They are not the simplest thing to use. First you have to buy their chemical to use with it. You usually need special adapters to hook it into the system. You also have to disable the cars fuel pump and restrict the return line so you don't push it right back into the tank. You also need to know the regulated pressure for that vehicle so you can run the vehicle on the chemical without gas.

well, old bad fuel seems to be a recurring problem with the old junky cars my family has. a few of them have been sitting for a very long time. just replaced the gas tank on one. the shop put more gas in it than they took out of the old one, so probably old gas. got a multiple misfire soon after. mechanic said replace 2 injectors, but he said something about his tech "hearing" 2 "weak" injectors. i understand injectors fire or they don't fire, and though they may leak or get stuck or have a bad spray pattern, the sound doesn't give you that distinction. i didn't get the impression that they fully diagnosed the issue, and probably are just guessing based on the codes. in any case, I think I could probably use the tool more than once. especially if there is little downside when giving the considerations Hammer Time pointed out, sounds like it makes sense as a triage step.

Maybe 30% of the cars have a shraeder valve and even those come in 2 different sizes. Most cars you have to get real creative to tee into the system at line connections using adapters from a fuel pressure assortment kit.
that BETOOLL Pro Fuel Injection Pressure Tester Kit Gauge comes with a bazillion adapters. do you think that would have me covered? would it be overkill?
As for the chemical, experience has shown me you should stay with the chemical from that manufacturer. I have ruined a few tools by using other chemicals that end up eating through the seals and gaskets in the tool. OTC makes good cleaners that work good in their tools. You also have to make sure the car will actually run on whatever chemical you are pumping through there. i understand injectors fire or they don't fire, and though they may leak or get stuck or have a bad spray pattern, the sound doesn't give you that distinction. Why would you say that? Listening to an injector can tell you a lot. The injector is a solenoid with a pintle on the end. If the tip gets clogged the solenoid will not hit solidly and the sound won't be as loud or it may not be moving at all.

i really try to buy a good home/prosumer version of whatever tool i'm getting unless it is something that I can't check the calibration or something, since my relationship with cars becomes completely different financially if i'm paying snap on prices for tools. i see a lot of mechanics barely braking even on their tools when they are doing it professionally, so it really doesn't make sense for me to go matco (though I have a matco feeler gauge.) I'm assuming that i'll know pretty quick with this kit if it is bad. the fittings will leak or the the pressure won't match my air tank pressure gauge when i hook it up, etc.

I wasn't recommending Matco. I just showed you that for comparison. There are many in between those prices.
A fuel pressure gauge kit will get plenty of use. The injector cleaner kit not so much. It is actually pretty rare to have dirty injectors and even then they can't always be cleaned and still require replacement.
