ignition problem 22REC Sign In

'86 Toyota p/u w/22rec, 5spd., 4x4. After doing a little arc welding on the frame (and neglecting to disconnect the battery) my truck is having ignition problems. I've traced to lack of spark. It starts right up when cool but does not start at all or stumbles and dies when hot. When the engine is running the igniter is very hot if you touch it. Could the igniter have been damaged by the welding? Don't even know if the problem is connected with the welding, but it showed right after the welding. Thanks for any thoughts and help.

I should also add that the engine check light is not flashing any codes. It is normal as always. Thanks.
