Re: no spark Sign In

Is it possible a wire is getting pinched between the cap and distributer body?

Re: no spark Sign In

Do you mean your getting spark from the coil wire but not the plug wires? That can only be due to cap rotor or the wires themselves.

Re: no spark Sign In

You keep saying you have juice. You need to be more specific. If you are getting spark from the coil wire, then I already answered your question.
Also, make sure your distributor rotor is actually turning when cranking.

Re: no spark Sign In

Work with us here, are you saying that when you pull the coil wire out of the center of the distributer cap and crank the engine, the coil wire sparks into the dist cap? BUT does not go to the plug wires when you plug the coil wire back in?

Re: no spark Sign In

exactly!! It sparks out of the coil, into the distributor, I tested between the center on the inside of the cap to the contacts for the plugs and it was good , but when you put the cap on ( new rotor too) nothing comes out of the cap . Nothing is between the rotor and contacts ........ what could it be. it should spark too the plug wire regardless ....... right? Even if the spark plug or wire is bad ? the wire is good, I didn't check the spark plugs them selves ( this is a astro van , it took about an hour to get the cover off :( lol , i am not a mechanic but i can do it ok ) It makes no sense 2 me I am going to work on it some more 2morrow. any help would be appreciated. Thanx. Unless there is something I am missing or don't know....... I don't know what else it could B. If i can't fix 2morrow, I'll take some pics 2 show u. ?? What does the wire harness plugs that go into the bottom do. Doesn't seem to me that they would impede the spark in the rotor and cap assembly in any way.

Re: no spark Sign In

There really are no other options here. If you are getting a good, strong spark out of the coil wire, then all that is left is the cap, rotor and wires. Make sure the original spark is actually strong enough to get through all those components. This cap has to be aligned carefully when being instally on to the distributor. Make sure the distributor gear isn't stripped and the rotor is turning solidly. Most of all, make sure you have the right parts. The wrong rotor wouldn't even reach the cap.

Re: no spark Sign In

Have to go with HT on this. If you are getting spark out of the coil wire, there really is only a few options here. Either the rotor isn't spinning or you have defective/wrong parts. The only other thing I would do here is to get a spark tester & check the coil output, even a weak coil should have enough strength to jump the rotor air gap and get thru the wires but it helps to know you are working with good parts when testing a system............
