stalling out('73 JEEP)Old Mial Jeep Sign In

Hey Guys,I'm having a problem with my mail jeep stalling out.It has a straight 6, carb.,and lousy points. It will idle in park just fine and stall out at times while delivering from box to box and then clear up and run fine.I also noticed if I hop back in the seat and shake the cab it seems like it's missing.I've tried adjusting the idle, fuel mixture, points and timing.I'm loosing my patience. What do think it might be? THANKS!!!!

Some common stuff was a loose carb or intake manifold leaks. The points still have to be right and you can test the distributor's bearings by using a dwell tach and rev the engine. Dwell should not move more than five degrees or it could be the problem. That would be the distributor bearings. Distributors can be rebuilt and new points set exactly by some old time rebuilders. The condenser should go too.

Gray hair can pay off!! T

Hey Tom,I used a dwell meter and the distributor bearings are good.I did test for vacuum, and I have a leak. The guage,as soon as I shut the ignition off dropped from 20 to 0,instantly.I figured the guage should have held some pressure.Would a leaky intake, carb.,or vacuum line cause this?THANKS!!!!!

When you shut down the engine vacuum will about dissapear immediately except for maybe a reservoir ball may hang on a while. I think you have it -- go 4 it, T
