tapping sound...coolant disappearing Sign In

We have a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a 3.4L V-6. I think 60 - 70,000 miles, can't check right now. Found sludge in radiator recently. After reading about Dex-cool, and at the advice of a local mechanic, had the radiator flushed and filled with green coolant. Since then, the coolant is disappearing and the engine has developed a tapping sound. Oil looks fine (on the dipstick, anyway). No noticable smoke coming from the exhaust. Does this sound like the intake manifold problem that many people experience with these GM engines? There still appears to be some sludge in the cooling system. Suggestions? Thanks...

IMO - the type of coolant isn't critical to this issue and even among regulars here we dispute using dexcool or not. I seriously doubt that's the noise.

In flushing a dirty system it may have flushed out guck that was sealing a leak! Other may-bees - water pump may be leaking or anywhere but water pumps can make noise. Flush or coolant on belt could be making noise but not cause of leaks.

For now find leak and see if that could be both issues. Also check belt alignment just because as some motors can shift the harmonic balancer. Again - that's noise not the leak so it may be two things??

these are also known for the lower intake gaskets leaking as well.
