Sorry to ask but GM tech working on toyota here!

A buddy of mine wants his lower ball joints and f shocks replaced, ive put them in on yukons, sierras so on but never a toyota. They look like they come bolted in from the factory so is it just a simple as poppin the tie rod end and joint out of knuckle then unbolting and beating that mother til it comes out?

I would assume if they bolt in no press will be needed?

Yep, disconnect the outer tie rod from the knuckle. Loosen the four nuts and remove the castle nut. Hammer shock or use a ball joint shafter remover ( gear puller) to pop the shaft out of the lower control arm. Take the four bolts out and lift up on the knuckle and upper control arm and remove the joint.

You don't have to remove the CV or disassemble the brakes. 4 bolts get tightened to 59 ft/lbs and the castle nut to 103 ft/lbs. If the hole doesn't line up for the cotter pin, tighten the nut a little more to line up the hole. Tie rod nut gets 67 ft/lbs.

You'll need a strut compressor to R and R the shock in the front. Removing the shock assembly is pretty self explanatory and will be easier to do with lower ball joint removed. Make sure you mark everything before taking the shock/spring assembly apart.

The large shock nut and bolt get 101 ft/lbs. The three upper mount nuts get 47 ft/lbs and the shock top nut get 22 ft/lbs.

You'll find that working on Toyota is really easy and everything fits really nice and is well designed.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
