02 Sunfire, Rough Idle & Hesitant Acceleration Sign In

2002 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2D; 2.2L; 36K Miles

Sunday: refilled the gas tank, cheap gas
Monday: Started up sluggishly, hesitated on acceleration, nearly stalls while idling
Restarted later slightly better still sluggish to start and accelerate.
Tuesday: Limped to auto parts store, replaced fuel filter
Fuel filter took some of the sluggishness out of starting and made acceleration past first gear much smoother

With car in park:
under 1k RPM - slight clicking noise from engine, then revs back up, very rough idle because of such
1k to 2k RPM - smoother, but hesitates to accelerate further
above 2k RPM - perfectly smooth

Poured a bottle of injector cleaner into the tank, seems to have helped ever so slightly.

Was able to limp her to work the last couple days; but feels like it's ready to stall at every stop light, but runs fine on the road.

strange...

heyuka; Do you have a check engine, or service engine soon, light on? Most large parts stores will retrieved any codes stored and you can post them here before you start throwing parts at it. Not that the fuel is to blame, I'd recommend that you only buy 'branded' fuels. Stay away from the 'gas 'n go', minit mart type fuels. Chevron, Texaco, Mobil, 76, ect. are what you should be buying.
