I have an 02 Mazda 6 with a 16v dohc 4cyl gas engine and a no start condition. let me break it down for you because it is a little strange. First when you turn key it tries to start for just a second then dies almost as if it would start if you left the starter engaged for a longer period of time "this is not the case" . Also "and here is where it gets odd" if you remove a spark plug wire "does not matter which one" and try to start it again it actually gets a little better and it will run for a few seconds then die again. I have done all the diagnostic i can think of. i.e.-fuel pump sounds fine, pressure at rail, spark on all cylinders look good, all fuses look good and I have voltage at all my injectors. Any help would be very appreciated. Links from Mazda forum removed

I haven't seen this problem on Mazdas but some Hondas have problem with their ign switches. I would try to hold the sw from returning all the way to the on position when it starts but don't hold it so far the starter stays engaged. The next step would be to retrieve the codes. If none are there you are going to have to start by verifying the correct fuel pressure with a gauge and spark strength with a spark tester..... Going off of listening to & looking at to verify systems as being good is a slippery slope and I've seen guys waste a ton of time by thinking something was good by how it looked only to find out it was in fact the problem......many hours later...
