04 Cavalier fuel pump relay problem Sign In

First of all....I have been searching this site and you guys are awesome! I need your help!

I have a 2004 cavalier. Intermittent starting problems. When you turn the key sometimes you hear the fuel pump kick on and sometimes you don't and as you know when it doesn't kick on car won't start.

I have replaced fuel pump. Thought it was fixed. worked for a while then problem came back.

Switched fuel pump relay worked for a while then same thing.

I found a gray wire in kick panel that was sort of burnt, I fixed the wire and it worked again for a while then intermittent problem came back.

I have to jump the fuel pump relay to get car started. I use a small wire and sometime I have to run it to the battery and sometimes I don't.
I am going crazy. I am in New York and since the weather has got colder the problem seems to be worse. It is a basic no frills cavalier. No power windows or any other accessories.
Please Help with any ideas.
Thanks

Trace all the connecters you can from the relay all the way back. Some times when pumps fail they draw too much current and it overheats the connecters where they get weak and barely make contact. When they overheat from normal current draw or you hit a bump that is enough to break contact until it cools down and makes contact again......

They can be a PITA to trace.........so............good luck....Wink
