2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cyl. 90,000 miles Has had some interesting sounds coming from it. When a bump is hit, a few thuds are heard under the center console. When a large enough bump is hit, the thuds turn into almost a thudding rattle. The only way to make it stop is by putting it in reverse and backing up a bit, then back to normal. My research has had many 'maybes' and two mechanics who have looked at it are at a loss. I pulled the front drive shaft to see if maybe it was the front diff, and when put into drive, only the front drive shaft from the transfer case spins! Is this supposed to be front wheel drive dominate? Or do I have major issues? Dealer replaced front passenger axle a few years ago, no issues for ~ 6 months.

Always tricky with noises - rattles. Try looking at all mounts for drivetrain and cross supports that might be broken. Putting it in reverse is putting torque backwards on certain mount is kinda a clue to look for mounts, T
