'06 Mercury Mountaneer AWD Starter Grinding Noise

I had replaced 4 starters for the passed 2 years. They all start making a grinding noise when I start the car to the point where they go out. I had changed the battery and flywheel. Any thoughts?

Good question HT. Was thinking of asking that. OP - look at another and look at the rebuilt one's starter drive for any wear at all. It by rights should be NEW from the core it was redone from whether needed or not.
I'm not sure if shims are used on this starter and didn't think so but suggests if sound is grinding the little drive gear to ring or flywheel gear is slipping it's not the right distance. Flipping ages now ago you would measure that with a complaint like this.
Other is remote: Is somebody driving this car with a bad habit of starting an already running engine? Could that be at all? Just asking as starters and the flywheel gear can only take so much of that - once or twice too much. Many times I doubt you'll get away with that habit or mistake,

If no other common reason or clear evidence this is extreme bad luck or somehow starter or "flywheel" gear isn't spaced properly - best guess. I only vaguely recall a paint, chalk or something you would mark gears so you could see where the force was and adjust it on some (some still but lots from way back when) with shims. If it had shims and not put back it would always be too tight and think it would harm starter drives which is the little gear on starter - also meant to free spin if engaged while running but isn't a guarantee of saving anything.
Best guess - too tight if all parts are correct,

I was thinking it might be an electrical problem. Maybe the starter is not getting enough voltage/power to start the motor. If so, what should I check. I have a new battery btw

Low AMPs or "power" should make the solenoid flutter like a machine gun sound not grinding.
Back to top. What happened that this needed the flywheel/ring gear in the first place? Almost all that do it's broken teeth 99% caused by the operator of the vehicle IMO,

To tell you the truth, I took it to someone thinking it had broken teeth, and he told me it was a little twisted. So he replaced it.

IDK of "twisted" as a problem without something drastic having happened? Wouldn't describe nor ever saw that.
So - since first starter that worked for a while and did it again it seems we/tech who's looking right at things isn't finding the real problem?
Apparently somehow it's being hard on the starter drive and would want to see it and how failed.
That means I'm confused by 4 starters now and nobody found the real flaw so I'm left to possible reasons already said if someone has a bad habit of starting a running engine would be first. I've know of some deaf people who weren't aware engine was running already try again (a relative of mine) but got away with it without harm for some reason??
I'm at a loss now without seeing it for myself and would be checking super rare things like how it mounts is somehow damaged or has been missing a shim even if not used OE check if it needs one.
Just one other whole car maker heard of a chunk of engine block breaking off and still worked minus one bolt but didn't see that myself.
If you aren't doing these than shop that is or tech that is needs to look harder at why. 4 times is just too many for defective the same way each time for me,

Can you record the noise and then post it to a video hosting site and post the link here? Maybe hearing it can give some ideas.
