08 jetta 2.5 clicking sound

08 jetta 2.5 clicking sound Sign In

In the past month every so often when i turn mu key i get a rapid clicking sound and on the second try it stars right up. The just the other day it couldnt get it to start. Id get clicking and then it would crank but no start. Can put my finger on what it is.

The rapid clicking is a sign of low voltage. You probably have a poor connection at one of the battery cables.

Just adding it's cold at night for an old or a problem anything to do with battery being able to crank engine first try every time. As HT already suggest it has to have clean connections that is battery cables both ends but usually right at battery.
Find out how old your battery is as IMO most have lost it by about 4 years old which is a rough guess you almost can't be on the original and the second is possibly about that age too.
FYI - Batteries are marked with the date they were made on them either clearly or encrypted but known so find out and mark it yourself to be clear and proactively toss them by age I strongly suggest,
