1978 CJ5 AMC 304 First, I would like to say that I am learning as I go, and have had some help from friends and reading various message boards. My jeep starts and will run as long as I stay on the throttle, but as soon as a I let off to idle it dies .. pretty quickly. I rebuilt the carb (again, I am a rookie), and it immediately seemed to be running a little better. I feel like I did a pretty good job. The timing was off, but that was just fixed. I bought a can of seafoam because I wanted to dump that into the gas tank (and maybe even a small amount directly into the carb?) to help clean anything out of there that needs to be. I am not really going to do anything just yet but I would like to see some opinions and advice from some jeep experts on here. All help is much appreciated! -Chet

Taking a carb apart and putting new gaskets in it is not rebuilding a carb. This is not something you can do yourself or you're are even equipped top do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
