My Fiero just started having engine troubles tonight at one point while I was driving it around it completely shut down now it is a manual but it didn't stall. And for several minutes the car would not start. Once I was jumped everything ran but now I have this horrible banging sound from the engine and I am rather concerned please help guys.

First thing is absolutely make sure oil is at proper level and has oil pressure. Even low oil pressure is light knocking but no oil pressure will kill an engine in no time. When it wouldn't start, would it even crank or just one smack of the starter? If you can describe the noise a bit more it would help a little. So far "banging" in an engine is suggestive to me of a serious lower end failure like a bent rod, or perhaps even a hole in a piston is what you are hearing. Be careful but try to get some idea of oil pressure even if just with it cranking at a normal cranking speed if it will. Doesn't seem like this is going to be good news by your description, T
