1988 Dodge Dakota Fuel Pump

I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota V6 with 350,000 MI on it and i just replaced the fuel pump and now it starts just fine but stalls out after 5 min any advice?

Does the engine start after it dies or does it need to sit for a while?

davis; Check to see if you are lacking spark and/or fuel at the time it dies. (you did replace the fuel filter at the same time, correct?)

You may either have an IAC problem or the SMEC is faulty. If you disconnected the battery, start the vehicle and feather the gas to keep it running. Unfortunately, you will need to do this until the engine reaches normal operating temp. If this doesn't fix it, and I'm not saying this is definitely the problem, only that I have seen this a lot, the SMEC could be the culprit. The SMEC is the black computer on the driver's side inner fender under the hood.

Well it will idle for 5 min or so before it stalls but when I try and feather the gas it starts ''gasping for fuel'' and stalls out immediatley.

Okay, two things to try. Put the fuel pressure guage back on the rail and double check the pressure. Could be a defective pump.
Next, could just be a computer relearn issue.

Thanks for all the help. I was also told I could need a new fuel pressure regulator.

In addition to the other advise, you may want to get the codes pulled to see if there is any help there. I believe on these you can cycle the key 3 times to get the SES light to flash the codes.
How long do you have to let it sit before it will start again? I've had a few of these with bad connector for the ECT (coolant temp) cause some warm running problems.............

Probably won't be an ECT issue then but still see if you can get the codes pulled to see if there's any direction there.
