1988 Dodge Van fuel problem??

Hello, 1988 Dodge Van , 3.0, V6, 100,000 miles. I acquired this van that has been sitting for 2 or 3 years. It does not appear the motor is getting fuel. When I pour gas into the throttle body, it will start and as long as I keep pouring gas into the throttle body she will sit there and run. When I no longer do this, the van will cut off. I put 3 gallons of gas in the gas tank and when I opened up the cap, smelled like rotten gas. What is the easiest thing to check first? (fuel filter, screen, fuel pump, trash in the tank, or fuel relay thingee?) Remember it has been sitting for 2 or 3 years. Is there a way to check the fuel pump? Is the fuel pump electric? What about the fuel relay something? Thanks for any help!!

Todd; The first thing to do would be to get that old gas out of the tank and replace the fuel filter. Then, check for fuel pressure. Yes, it is an electric fuel pump, in the tank. You may want to see if you can hear the pump run, first, now that I think about it. Since I'm rather hard of hearing, I'll put a funnel in the fuel neck (where you put the gas in) and have someone turn on the key. You should hear the pump run for about 3 or 4 seconds.
