1988 VW Cabriolet Distributor Question Sign In

I'm restoring an 88 vw cabriolet that has been sitting a long time. During the tune up a line from the base of the distributor (not the cap, the actual distributor) broke. I have no idea what this does or is but now the car does not start. What the heck is it?! Can email pics or post them if that's possible here (and I figure that out).

Found the answer. The tube is part of the vacuum advance. A couple of bucks at the local auto supply place for some new tube and i'm good to go.

A vacuum advance will not prevent a car from starting.

Thank you for your reply, still learning. I changed distributor cap, rotor, plugs & wires, air filter, oil & oil filter. It ran before, albeit poorly. Now the starter is turning but the engine isn't starting. Suggestions on things to check?

Find out what you broke or did wrong but the vacuum advance isn't it.
