1992 Cadillac seville problem

1992 Cadillac seville problem Sign In

i have a 1992 cadillac seville with 4.9 and its running very rich and i smell fumes. it is jerking throughout driving range. after i run the car for about 15 min. it runs better. i checked my OBD and it pops a code that says ECM? does this mean that the ecm is not communicating with the OBD? i tried putting it on a dyno and have no responce there either. Please help

the only real code it could be is the ECM? it wont comunicate with the dyno either

the only other code it is throwing is the absolute manifold pressure. and it is saying (ECM?) The OBD is unable to pull any codes for the ECM. why is this?

Will the car even run if the Ecm is not working? i took it to the shop and the mechanic coulnt tell me anything cause it would respond to the dyno. hw said i need a new ECM and a new mem-cal. could that be?

All stored trouble codes are numbered. We need the specific numbers.

The OBD will not tell me any trouble codes for the ECM. it wont even tell the dyno anything. Will the car even run if the ECM was bad?

To extract a trouble from the computer for diagnostic purposes, the Assembly Line Communication Link (ALDL) connector is used.
Ground terminals A and B with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession.
After 12 is displayed, any stored trouble s will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All s are displayed 3 times each then a 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

I may be wrong, but what I am reading, is the Guest posting this question is using the off and warmer button on his A/C to bring up his OBD once it cycles through if no problems were found it starts with ECM? this means do9 you wish to neter the ECM parameters, for CODES, INPUTS, OUTPUTS, etc,, or if not you move on to BCM? RFA? HVAC? SIR? etc... he is not listing a code becuase it is not listing one, and, the ECM is communicating but it is waiting for commanded input.

That's possible. That's why I gave him the aldl method. The check engine light is coming on, there should be something there.

unless it is going by so quickly or a button is being pressed that is taking him past the DTC

Probably jumping ahead of ourselves here, but a MAP sensor can cause overfueling. Check the vacuum signal to the sensor. The MAP sensor looks at manifold vacuum. When you accelerate, the manifold vacuum drops, the MAP sees this and adds fuel thinking you are under load. If you have a vacuum leak or poor engine management, it will cause a loss of vacuum, causing the MAP to add fuel. The GM MAP sensors do go bad, but need more diagnostics prior to replacing it.
