So the check engine light still persists after fixing the EGR problem, but the fuel pressure is still not reading properly. I've replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter so far trying to get the pressure into normal ranges. I'm obviously going to try the test again and make sure that I'm doing it right though I don't see how I couldn't have, but of course I'm bothered by the low readings from the fuel pump during the prime. If there were a leak present in the system it should go up the 40 psi first and then drop over time, not give me a low reading from the get. If there were an obstruction in the lines, it should be consistent when running, too.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go up to O'Reilly's where hopefully I can run a test on my car while the light is on, and maybe get lucky and get a code back. Otherwise, I'll have to pay a Ford dealership to run a diagnostic for me which isn't cheap, or just keep shooting in the dark.

We can't tell you anything further until you get that code for us.

I'm aware, I mostly made that post for posterity and documentation. Who knows how useful all this can be for somebody in the future

Re: 1994 Town Car - Check Engine Light Sign In

I managed to find out what the light is about....Insufficient EGR Flow

....so I guess I didn't clean it enough haha

Problem solved, I'm just a big dumb idiot. I'm not gonna go back in there until I have to because this is just an emissions problem and FL doesn't do emissions, but the mystery is over, everybody.

As far is fuel pressure is concerned, I don't understand what's going on, but the car starts, idles, accelerates, and drives just fine so I'm falling back on the age old saying that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I wanna thank you two for your patience and help on this, especially after finding out that its' the original problem, not a new problem. If I need help with my next job (ball joints and shocks) I'll give you guys a shout. Until then, happy Fathers' Day.

That's cool it's supposed to work inspections where you are exactly or not. EGRs also help reduce chances of knock which is harmful so glad you found and fixed it,

Re: 1994 Town Car - Check Engine Light Sign In

Yes, EGR's are not just emissions. They reduce combustion temperature which can cause numerous problems including the detonation Tom spoke of.

When you clean this you are not just cleaning the chamber housing. There is a small passage at one end that is where the restriction will be.

To find this passage you need to remove both the throttle body and the 90deg elbow to the manifold. Lift the gasket up and you will see the passage blocked solid.
