Do you mean the starter doesn't crank the engine? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It tries? It either does or it doesn't. The starter motor has to spin the engine fast enough for the engine to start. If the starter is spinning the engine too slow or not at all, you need to check the starting system. First thing is to make sure the battery is fully charged. Then have it tested. It is crucial the battery is in good shape when diagnosing starting system problems. Also make sure that your battery connections are clean and tight. The cables on those were notorious for corrosion problems. If the cable is heavily corroded, you may need to replace it. If not, clean it up and make sure the battery bolts are clean and in good shape. That would be a good place to start. Seems like it cranks but just too slow to start - right? Side posts might look good and not be. Will this take a jump? May not because the side posts are really just touching the battery not the cables. Do check the battery new or now and take a real hard look at the cable ends. What was with water on plugs? Huh? If this cranks but just too slow it's starting system, battery on to starter or the engine is so tight there are bigger problems? T
