Hello, I have a 1995 Camry LE 4 clyinder engine with 192,000 miles. My problem started four months ago when I start the car cold there is a pinging sound , like a spring vibrating. and it last about 4-6 seconds , then it goes away. The noise will not repeat itself for hours. If it is a very cold night the noise is louder in the morning. The car has to sit for 6-7 hours for the noise to repeat itself. I traced the sound i thought by the alternator area. When i touched the alternator while someone starts the car up i felt a vibration in the alternator. . Timing belt and water pump was changed about 5 years ago. Yesterday I changed the alternator . I started the car this morning and the noise is back. There are no coolant leaks , car does no smoke and after the pinging sound the car operates normally. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Mike

Take the belt off and start the car when it would normally do this to you. If the noise persists its engine related, if not its accessory related. If accessory, start feeling around the pulleys, work the tensioner back and forth and such trying to hear noises out of norm or vibration.
