1996 Cougar rear case bushings Sign In

i have a 1996 cougar and i am looking for a replacement bushing set for the rear diff case. it has the 4.6liter engine and aode trans. i do know that the 2003 mustang cobra came with an independant rear susp. and was wondering if i can use aftermarket or OE bushings from that? Ford does not make the bushing anymore and none of the local parts suppliers carry or can get them. any help i can get in this matter will be good. its getting to the point that when i apply throttle the rear diff slaps the underside of the car.

See attachments; Can you pinpoint for me which part you are looking for? I'm a little 'thick' this morning and not fully understanding.Wink

Post 1999 cougars are front wheel drive. 1997 and older ( there was not a 1998) are rear wheel drive. 1994-1997 have independant rear susp.

I just Googled the web away on this and just forget Cougar and call it Mustang and you find tons of stuff for rear end bushings by color or anywhich thing you could think of.

The "Cougar" thing is screwing up the parts look up for me too. If it looks like the layout of a Mustang GT for instance then it probably is.

Here's the link for a look see which may help.......

Don't know if that will show or not?? If it doesn't link to www.moddedmustangs.com and call the thing a Mustang - there was tons of stuff there.

~~~~~~~~~~~
It's off the exact topic but Cougar (Mercury) has been whatever they felt like over the decades now!? I owned a 79 XR7 that was near identical to T-Bird of that era and those were both what Ford called LTDII also and prior to that Torino??
This part(s) is/are totally available it's just an issue with naming the car as the drivetrain is almost certainly NOT unique to just Mercury's car IMO,
the part i am looking for is not shown. but as with most IRS systems the diff is mount to the chassis. the bushings i am looking for are at the mounting points for the diff case.
