1996 Dodge Dakota gas gauge Sign In

hello - I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota extra cab SLT V8 5.2L 318 with 160,000+ miles and the gas gauge has recently stopped working. for a while it would jump around and not give a true reading, but now it pretty much sits at the bottom all the time. if I fill the gas completely, then it will sit at full for about 50 miles before it jumps to the empty side. is this a computer issue? or is the gauge just bad?

I have other interior power issues such as the radio not getting power and the driver door doesn't trigger the interior light or key buzzer anymore. It would be nice if all of these things were connected, but knowing my luck they are not. Throwing the truck into a river is not quite an option yet, so keep those comments to yourself Wink

thank you for any help!
-Jeff

I would probably start off with checking the grounds on that. There should be a couple under the dash. I believe there are some near the center on the drivers side and they may be some on each side behind the kick panels. Check those out, make sure they are clean & tight....

cool - I just got a new blower motor resistor, so I have to get back in that area anyways and I will check these.
