I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire that has the 2.2 motor and automatic transmission. It has over 200,00 miles on it. It started dieing occasionally at low speeds but after sitting a few minutes it would start and run fine. I replaced the coil pack and it didn't fix it. Then I replaced the fuel pump with a used one from a running wrecked car. It ran okay for a couple of days and then started cutting out at highway speeds after driving about an hour. It would die, coast a little bit and restart. When it would do this it would trigger the theft system so the theft light would come on but it would run okay. I put a new fuel pump in it and it still did the same thing. A few days later it quit a few times coasted and restarted then it quit completely and won't start. I was told it was probably the key switch causing the issue so I have replaced the key switch and reset the theft system but it still won't start. I am not getting fuel but If I hook up a battery to the fuel pump it will pump. It seems like something in the computer system is shutting off the fuel. All the fuses and relays have been replaced. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check for injector pulse. If none, check crank sensor. These do not always set trouble codes, but do check to see if any have stored. btw, I'm hoping that you've replaced the fuel filter when you replaced the pump. Loren SW Washington
