You need to rig up a fuel pressure gauge that can e view while driving. This engine has a high pressure fuel system that is very sensitive to pressure loss. It requires a minimum of 55PSI at all times to even run. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

so your thinking fuel pump? i was wandering if there was a chip or sensor that was going out. I started to change the fuel pump but decided to check online opinions. i once had a cutlass that was surging and it was an o2 sensor. But i didnt know if my truck even had sensors or chips. Do you know anything about that? And what kind of gauge to check fuel pressure? I grew around shops all my life and actually been racing for years so im not totally dumb when it comes to tools and gadgets but im not sure iv ever used a fuel pressure gauge and certainly not that i could look at while driving.

You can't work on fuel injection without a fuel pressure gauge. There is a service port on the fuel rail and you run the hose out the back of the hood and tape the gauge to the windshield. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

ok, gotcha. Thanks for your help. What would i be looking for? Low pressure or flucuating pressure. And what would either of these indicate, fuel pump problems or injector problems?

A pressure drop when the problem occurs. It should never be below 55PSI ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Don't have the #s for sure but think the pressure on this should be 60-66 PSI and hold for quite a while when you shut down engine. I've seen these high pressure fuel systems show problems just 2 psi too low! Rule out as much as you can like know fuel filter is good and change those often. If this happens with just slight acceleration you might be able to duplicate it sitting still just "brake standing" within reason and safely please. More: If you conclude the fuel pump is the culprit (common for these) get the whole shooting match from GM as the knock off cheaper stuff so far just hasn't lasted well in too many. Don't let any vehicle with electric fuel pumps run too low on fuel which is a major strain on the pumps as the fuel cools them. This one and type is even more sensitive to that from what I've seen, T
